From Bermuda Stripping and Refinishing to BS&R Group

Bermuda Stripping and Refinishing recently went through a transformation, and emedia was fortunate enough to be able to help them out along the way. Recently, Bermuda Stripping and Refinishing decided to change their name to BS&R Group as the original name was very limiting and did not reflect the full range of work that they do, including custom carpentry, antique restoration and reproductions.

The rebranding process had many parts to it. First, emedia went about creating new logos for the parent company and for its three divisions. The parent company logo was entirely new, while the division logos were reworkings of the original division logos. The rebranding effort continued with new signange, new stationery and new ads.

Once all of these elements were complete, emedia kept the ball rolling with public relations efforts to let the public know that the company that they have known and trusted for years still has the same great quality, but now has a new name. This was accomplished by getting articles run in both of the island's major newspapers and following this up with the new advertisements to help cement the new name in the public's minds.

The combination of these efforts has led to a strong reception and acknowledgement of the new name and the new branding.

   
 

Getting the most out of your website - Search Engine Optimization and Copywriting

Most people these days are aware of the importance of search engine optimization of a website. For those who are not, a brief explanation of search engine optimization may be necessary. Search engine optimization, often simply called SEO, is a range of techniques that are used to make your website show up prominently among the results on search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. Much of the SEO work done on a website is hidden to the viewer through the use of keywords and metatags or other such "magic" that will be done by your web developer. But a large part of what makes SEO work is hiding in plain view; it's your content. Modern search engines are quite sophisticated, and the greatest keywords and metatags in the world won't do you much good if they don't match up with the wording in your text.

The more often your keywords are mentioned in your text, the more relevant a search engine will determine you to be to that search term. This sounds simple enough, but there is often a fine balance between creating text that is pleasing to viewers of your website and creating text that is pleasing to search engines. Repeating your keywords incessantly in your text may get you hits, but it’s not going to get you very many customers. Working with a copywriter can help to alleviate these issues, especially if this person can work in tandem with the web developer who is establishing your keywords. If a copywriter is out of your budget and you are creating the text yourself, it will be worth your time to sit down with your web developer to determine what keywords and phrases will be used in the "behind the scenes" SEO so that you can try to incorporate them into the visible content as well. By ensuring that these two pieces work in tandem, you will be ensuring that you are getting the most you can out of your SEO and getting as much traffic to your website as possible.

Phil has been working on several large project recently including the design of the Pitt & Co. website and the intranet for the BMA. Phil has also recently introduced a new corporate style for Argus print ads. This fall, Phil took on a new role as a graphic design instructor at Bermuda College passing along his knowledge to the next generation of Bermudian designers.
