Kodak Express - PhotoExpress Website

Kodak: PhotoExpress Website

Problem: As we move further into the digital age, traditional film photography has started to fall by the wayside. More people are using digital cameras and using electronic means of sharing their photographs with friends and loved ones. This reduction of film prints, and the revenue that these prints bring in, is a problem that has been plaguing Kodak both in Bermuda and overseas. Kodak Express customers were experiencing problems with the current system of using Kodak Express to print their digital photographs. Customers are too busy to make a trip to the store to drop off their pictures for processing and then return a few days later to pick them up. Kodak Express needed a way to bring printing professional quality pictures more in line with the lives their customers are leading.

Solution: emedia developed and implemented the PhotoExpress website (www.photoexpress.bm) for Kodak Express, an online store where customers can upload their digital photos then choose from a variety of print methods including everything from standard prints in a variety of sizes to custom calendars, mock magazine covers, and greeting cards. This allows customers to better control when and how they choose to print their digital pictures. It also eliminated one trip to the Kodak Express storefront, making the experience more convenient and, therefore, more appealing to its customers.

Outcome: The PhotoExpress site paid for itself within the first year and continues to generate revenue for Kodak Express while fulfilling customer needs.

Features of the website:

Multiple File Upload - Users can simply select a batch of images and upload them at the same time then carry on to select quantities and sizes.

Secure Credit Card Capture - Kodak Express needed a way to collect Credit Card information for each order to be used only if the order was not collected in 14 days. emedia successfully installed a SSL certificate and created a custom built data encryption code to safely and securely store this sensitive information for each order. The information is only accessible to the store manager using a unique user name and password.

Kodak Console - In order to receive each order a console was built to run on the in-house Kodak Express computer. The console runs all day as new orders are received. Staff can print details of each order and tag orders once they are complete. This console was entirely custom built by emedia and has been successfully in operation since July 2006.
