Bermuda Gas Sky Streetball

In May of 2011, emedia was delighted to take on a vital role in the planning and execution of the third consecutive Bermuda Gas All-Star weekend, featuring the talented basketball players of the S.K.Y Streetball Syndicate. This free event is designed to provide the community with an entertaining, family-oriented spectacle for all ages, as well as to help create opportunities and connections for Bermuda’s young basketball players.

The Bermuda Gas All-Star Weekend would take place on May 6th and 7th, and consisted of a variety of activities, culminating with the marquee game between the S.K.Y Streetball team and Bermuda’s national basketball team. The S.K.Y team hosted two school visits as well as a skills clinic, where students were able to learn and interact with the players. New to this year’s event, a strong focus was placed on Bermuda’s female basketball players, with WNBA player Temeka Johnson of the Phoenix Stars participating in the festivities. Two of Bermuda’s up and coming female players were also selected to travel to the States with Temeka to spend time training with the Phoenix Stars.

Already familiar with the Bermuda Gas All-Star Weekend (after providing assistance at the previous year’s event), emedia was thrilled when asked to assume a more central role this year, taking charge of all the publicity and providing logistical assistance at the event itself. Two successful press conferences were held prior to the weekend, garnering an exciting amount of coverage in the media. Furthermore, the emedia team enjoyed the task of coordinating the ‘celebrity game’, a friendly match between two teams of Bermuda’s most recognisable faces, which took place before the marquee game.

The All-Star Weekend proved to be a resounding success, and gave us the opportunity to help with an exciting and positive community event. We are looking forward to making the Bermuda Gas All-Star Weekend an even bigger success next year.

Made up of some of the top streetball players in the world, the Serving Knowledge to Youth (S.K.Y.) team employ basketball as way to share vital messages about the importance of education, the importance of staying drug-free and the importance of making the right choices in life.
